Frequently Asked Questions
Detailed answers regarding mobilization timelines, Surface Supplied Diving systems, safety management, and dive training in Bangladesh.
How quickly can OSDS mobilize for emergency underwater inspections or repairs in Bangladesh?
As verified in our company profile, OSDS permanently bases experienced dive crews and equipment in Dhaka and can mobilize on-site within hours rather than days or weeks anywhere in Bangladesh for urgent pipeline repairs, river training observations, or power plant intake emergencies.
What qualifications and background do your commercial divers possess?
Our permanent core team of over 22 personnel is led by veteran specialists qualified from the Bangladesh Navy with up to 30 years of underwater experience. Our divers hold certifications from Bangladesh Navy, CMAS (3-Star Conservation Diver), and NDL Global (Course Directors & Dive Masters), with technical equipment credentials from international engineering firms including Hyundai and Sino Hydro.
What is the difference between Surface Supplied Diving (SSD) and standard SCUBA?
For industrial, civil engineering, and deep turbid river projects, OSDS uses Surface Supplied Diving (SSD). The diver wears a Kirby Morgan commercial helmet connected to the surface by a 100m umbilical that provides continuous breathing air, continuous two-way hardwired audio communications, real-time CCTV video telemetry, and pneumofathometer depth tracking. Standard SCUBA carries air in back-mounted tanks and is utilized primarily for scientific surveys, recreational training, and light reconnaissance.
Has OSDS worked on major national infrastructure and international contracts?
Yes. OSDS has successfully completed projects for the World Bank (IDA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), UNDP, AECOM / Maunsell (Padma Multipurpose Bridge Detailed Design), China Petroleum Pipeline (Meghna 52" HDD pipeline), Edmund Nuttall / Halcrow (Bhairab Bridge), BWDB, Titas Gas, GTCL, Globeleq (Haripur 360MW Power Plant), and Otronix Subsea Singapore (SME4 submarine cable).
How does OSDS ensure zero-incident safety during high-risk river operations?
Every operation adheres to our formal Safety Management System (SMS). This includes conducting site-specific Job Safety Analyses (JSA), deploying a dedicated surface dive supervisor with a 4-diver CCTV monitoring console, maintaining an active on-site standby diver ready for instant water entry, and equipping every diver with an independent emergency bailout air cylinder.
Where is your recreational scuba diving center located?
Our recreational dive center is permanently situated at Oceanic Scuba Center, Coast Guard Road, Purba Para, Saint Martin’s Island, Cox’s Bazar. We offer guided reef tours, beginner discover scuba sessions, international Open Water certification, and advanced rescue training.
Do you provide commercial diver training for individuals seeking an industrial career?
Yes. We offer intensive professional commercial diver training programs covering Surface Supplied Diving procedures, Kirby Morgan helmet maintenance, underwater welding and thermal cutting, geotextile mattress placement, and diver-operated dredging systems.
How are commercial diving quotes and contracts priced?
Commercial dive contracts are custom-scoped depending on water depth, river flow velocity, total bottom-time required, surface supplied vs. SCUBA mobilization, tooling (underwater welding, dredging, or jetting), and project duration. Please use our online inquiry form or call our 24/7 direct lines (+880 1711-867991) for a prompt technical proposal.
Have a Project-Specific Question?
Our marine engineers and dive supervisors are happy to review your riverbed conditions, bathymetry surveys, or tender specifications.
